Kharge asks Centre to release Rs 18,171 crore for Karnataka drought relief
Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, urged the Central government to release Rs 18,171 crore from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) for Karnataka, which is facing severe drought. The state has suffered the most severe drought in 123 years, causing an estimated Rs 35,162 crore worth of damage to crops. Kharge emphasized the urgent need for financial support to provide input subsidies, relief measures, and address the low rainfall situation. He also highlighted the alarmingly low water levels in reservoirs and the impending shortage of drinking water.
